Superb LP from 1970. It has a late night ‘spooky’ feel about it on some songs. Especially tracks like ‘On A Meadow-Lea’ & ‘The Lens’. A true forgotten gem of that era is this LP. Trying to find an original copy these days are rather slim as you’d be parting with a large amount of cash for one, and even then you’d have a hard job trying to get someone to part with a copy, as it’s that good!

Great Garage/Psych from 1966 by The Blues Magoos. Status Quo recorded a good version of ‘(We Ain’t Got) Nothin’ Yet’, and Deep Purple used the riff for their track ‘Black Night’.

Arguably the first psychedelic rock album, REVOLVER was praised for its musical experimentation–the Indian sounds of “Love You To”, the Motown-inspired “Got To Get You Into My Life”, the backwards guitar in “I’m Only Sleeping”. “Tomorrow Never Knows” was the most radical departure from previous Beatles’ recordings for its skeletal bass/drums propulsion enhanced only with tape loops (contributed by all four Beatles and added in the mix-down process), more backwards guitar, and an eerie John Lennon vocal.
Still, the Beatles’ experimentation grew out of their songwriting, which had matured beyond formula pop. “Tomorrow Never Knows” was inspired by the Tibetan Book of the Dead, Harrison’s “Taxman” was a bitterdiatribe, and McCartney’s “Eleanor Rigby” was a bleak portrait of loneliness. Balanced with upbeat songs like “Good DaySunshine” and “Yellow Submarine”, REVOLVER proved The Beatles were not mere pop stars, but musical artists in search ofnew sounds and ideas. Though some might argue that the Beatles’ unprecedented evolution from British Invasion pin-ups to pop music visionaries began with BEATLES FOR SALE, RUBBER SOUL is without a doubt the first album to definitively put the Fab Four in the running for Greatest Band Ever. Virtually every aspect of the Liverpool quartet’s incredibly diverse sound is in evidence here: the dark, irony-filled Dylanism (“Norwegian Wood”, “Nowhere Man”), pop perfection (“In My Life”), the passion for classic tin pan alley balladry (“Girl”, “Michelle”), and thelove of good ‘ol rock & roll music (“Drive My Car”). Peppered with nasty fuzz bass, exotic sitar, cartoonishly sped-up piano that sounds like harpsichord, and elements of country,Motown, and classical music, the album reveals a creative scope and willingness to experiment so revolutionary it can now only be termed “Beatlesque”. Here’s a nice obscurity from the UK Decca Nova label 1969. This LP reminds me so much of ART & SPOOKY TOOTH. The opening track ‘I’m Going Home’ is a great track with some nice guitar work!

Great Psych/Prog from this 1969 LP by ARZACHEL which consisted of Steve Hillage (Later with Egg), & Dave Stewart (later with The Eurythmics). Personal faves are; ‘Garden of Earthly Delights’ & ‘Queen St. Gang’.

ART – Supernatural Fairy Tales (UK Psych 1967)

Here’s a classic Psychedelic LP from 1967. Produced by Guy Stevens who was famous as the DJ at The Scene club in London’s Ham Yard (a Mod Club) in the 1960′s. He later went on to work with Mott The Hoople & The Clash as producer in the 1970′s-80′s before he sadly passed away.

ART were first known as THE V.I.P.’s and cut a single called ‘Straight Down To The Bottom’ on Island records. After the name ART they changed their name again to, SPOOKY TOOTH! Who cut a couple of great LP’s that i’m sure I will include at some point.

Includes eight bonus tracks, ‘Eli’s Coming’ (single), ‘United States Of Mind’ (single), ‘Yes Man’, ‘If You Live’, ‘I Am The Walrus’, ‘You Met Your Match’, ‘Long Voyage’ & ‘Little Lonely Man’. 2002.
